Just read out my blog which saves you some thousands of rupees, sometimes lakhs, and some more times kidney also.
Precautionary measures:
Backup:
We don’t know what happens to our phones while using they may be stolen, or they may be broken due to some problems. For both of the problems that may happen, there is only one solution to backing up the important data that is present on your phone. Most of the data can be backed up to cloud storage systems and sometimes you may use external SSD to make sure your data is safe.
Switch of Stolen phone:
The first thing a thief does when he stoles your phone is switch off the mobile so you cannot track down them. It seems that switching off the mobile is easy, but nowadays the new updates in the phone have made it impossible until the owner of the mobile switches off it.
First when we get into the iPhone setting (iPhones are the most stolen phones). In the settings of the iPhone, we have the option named passcode, in that passcode, one can find the stolen device protection setting. You can on it and keep it always or else we can set it away from the home location. This means when you’re at your home you can switch off the device. If you are away from home, to switch off the device we need facial recognition. So the thief cannot switch off the device.
When it comes to Android there are similar features present in all Android mobiles. These settings will differ from phone to phone in Android. Below are the clear steps to enable this option in different brand mobiles.
Airplane mode:
While there is no option to switch off the mobile of the thief they just turn our phones into airplane mode, which shuts all kinds of networks like, mobile internet, and normal call services too. All the phones by default have access to the control center of your phone. We can make it off through settings.
For the iPhone users, go to the settings and then face ID & passcode, when you scroll down there you we be able to find the control center button which will be on, just power it off there. So you cannot access the control center when the device is locked.
For Android users there are different for different brands. For Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO use the following procedure to off the control center.
- Go to settings.
- Go to Notifications and Control Center.
- Go to items shown on the lock screen after swiping down
- There you can disable the control center.
- For Realme/ OPPO/ OnePlus:
- Go to Settings
- Go to the Notifications & Status bar
- Go to More settings
- Swipe down on the lock screen to view the notification drawer (OFF)
- For VIVO/ IQOO:
Go to settings - Go to lock screen wallpaper
- Go to Lock screen settings
- Go to open the control center from the lock screen (OFF)
Tracking stolen phone:
For the iPhones we have the dedicated application Find My Device in other Apple devices. Not only in devices we can also track it through the official Apple website. Even using the Apple watch we can able to track down our lost mobile. Here through this Find My Device we have many features, we can the exact location of the phone. And also, we can activate lost device mode, where we can keep customer messages such as “Call this number if you found this phone”. We can also play the sound to find out the position of the phone. We can also erase the data that is present in the phone.
For Android users there is a similar app which is powered by Google where we have location tracking and playing sound until it turns off from our side. Also, we can erase the entire data present in the phone.
When stolen phone not tracked:
There are minimum chances of getting the stolen mobile because even if we secure the phone in all these ways one can easily remove the sim from the phone which breaks the connection with the phone’s exact location. These cases are higher in chance. Finding the phone is only possible when u lose it keeping it somewhere in shops or other places.
In most cases, we hear that we cannot get back our phone as the thief may escape. Don’t be disappointed, even in this situation we can be able to find our phones through the proper police complaint. Below are the steps to be followed for the proper complaint.
Police complaint:
Before you visit to nearest police station take these documents with you so the complaint will be easy and finding the device also makes it simple.
- Take the box of your phone where the IMEI number of the phone will be present, even if the stolen phone is erased, we can track the phone through the IMEI number.
- An invoice or bill for the phone must be submitted.
- The SIM card number and the Aadhar card details of the owner.
- Then the police give you an FIR copy of your complaint.
- Take this FIR to the website ceir.gov.in.
